Committee Purpose: The purpose of the
Traveling Exhibits Committee is to investigate sources of exhibits that can be
brought to
Iowa
to be made available to IAN member sites for temporary display. The committee
will also work to develop new exhibits on
Iowa
topics that will be available to IAN member sites on a rotating basis.
Committee Report March 2009
Committee
Report March 2007: The committee has been able to meet once since its
informal beginnings at the Fall 2006 IAN workshop. (If you want bad weather, ask
us to plan a committee meeting.)
At this meeting the group discussed existing small exhibits some counties
already have that could be available to travel around the state, components that
could be incorporated into such exhibits and existing exhibits available from
outside sources (think mountain lion exhibit).
The committee also listed possible topics for exhibits to develop. The top three
choices are:
- Prairies/Cropland
connections/plus cool stuff about prairie plants and critters
- Mussels/Water
Quality
- Birds/Neotropicals/Habitat
Issues/plus cool stuff about birds
Sandy Fulcher and Kelly Sonnichsen and others have been gathering information
about existing exhibits that may be available for rent. The committee is
also discussing logistical issues, insurance issues. Members have signed up for
subcommittees such as grant writing funding resources; design, research, text
writing, activity development, and logistics.
The committee will also act to pass
along information about available traveling exhibits that individual IAN members
may be interested in and want to investigate on their own.
